Our Story
Our Story
History
The Edward Köehn Company started with one Hartford Automatic Screw Machine that Edward Köehn (Pop) operated out of his home garage in Berkeley, California. In 1943, the business outgrew the garage and was moved into a commercial space in North Berkeley.
In 1943, Pop purchased the property and built a shop at 820 Folger Ave. in Berkeley, where the shop remains today. Both of Pop’s sons, Paul Köehn and Dave Köehn, were very involved in the shop from an early age. Paul Köehn purchased the business from his father in 1975. In the years Paul owned the business, he expanded the scope of parts that Edward Köehn Company produced. In the 1990s, the company got its first computer numeric control (CNC) machines, and Paul’s sons, Edward J. Köehn and John Paul Köehn, got their start in the family business.
With the passage of time, many things have changed around the shop, but you will still find Pop’s first Hartford Automatic Screw Machine (along with some other manufacturing antiques) in the back room. With Edward J. Köehn as general manager, three generations of Köehn’s have run the business, operated the machines, and worked on the floor. Edward Köehn Co. plans to continue its tradition of innovating, adapting, and providing quality products for many years to come.
